About the event

Rydal Caves & Loughrigg Fell

.Rydal Cave is situated on the northerly side of Loughrigg Fell and is actually a man-made cavern, which was formerly known as Loughrigg Quarry. The cave has been hollowed out of a rocky outcrop which overlooks picturesque Rydal water. Over two hundred years ago Rydal Cave was a busy working quarry supplying excellent quality roofing slate to the surrounding local villages

Take the stepping stones through the shallow lake at the entrance (we may even see some small fish in the pool!) and head in to the darkness of the cave.

Once we have explored the caves ( there are two) the other less known one is actually called Jobson Close Cave we will head on up to summit Loughrigg Fell via Loughrigg Terrace.

Our descent will take us down past the stepping stones which reach out across the river Rothay. Hopefully we can all walk across them without slipping in.

Meeting Point:- Pelter Bridge Car Park 0930am. If this car park is full we will meet at "White Moss Car Park" LA229SE. I will notify Angela on the morning of our walk if any changes need to be made.

Time :- 9.30am

Distance:- 4.3m

Duration :- Around 4hrs give or take

Kit :- We all know what the lake district weather can be like especially at the end of October so please bring with you adequate waterproofs and walking boots. food and drink (snacks)
